Recycling is for life… Transforming wooden pallets into tables and benches, converting empty oil tanks into tables and creating a path for local Girl Guides from pellets were just some of the creative initiatives taken by #MaltaFreeportTerminals staff to mark European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR). Working on this year’s theme, A Packing-Free Tomorrow, the Freeport went to great lengths to show that it does not seek temporary fixes for recycling issues but aims to cultivate lasting habits and mindsets that promote sustainable packaging practices and the management of other waste materials.
Our employees transformed old glass bottles into innovative table lamps and collected shopping bags that will be given to Foodbank Lifeline Foundation which distributes food to people in need. Other initiatives included a clean-up of the seabed in the local village, Birzebbuga, and creating simple decorative arrangements by planting various cacti in old pots and glass jars. The Freeport also printed special T-Shirts for participants with the slogan – Zero Wrap, Big Impact; A Packaging-Free tomorrow for EWWR2023, and looks forward to having an even bigger impact in future.
