Hive of activity: The Terminal 2 expansion project at #MaltaFreeportTerminals has marked another important milestone after the completion of the first caisson base structure for the land reclamation project. This base was gently submerged into the sea by its hosting barge while casting of its concrete walls took place before the caisson was floated and placed into position. With concrete being produced on site, work can now begin on the base for the second of twelve caissons required for the project. To ensure quality, an independent testing laboratory is also based on site to assess fresh concrete properties, carry out inspections and ensure that the quality plan is adhered to at all times. The land reclamation project, will extend the north quay at Terminal 2 by 176 metres and the west quay by 195 metres, enhancing the Freeport’s capability to handle new and future mega containerships. A big well done to all involved and on to the next phase!
