Welcoming a new era… #MaltaFreeportTerminals was proud to welcome the CMA CGM TIGA on her maiden voyage to #Malta. This impressive Malta-flagged containership — measuring 255m in length, 40m in width, and with a gross tonnage of 59,052 — berthed at Terminal One, where our team efficiently handled 1,693 container moves using three quayside cranes. Built for the future, the CMA CGM TIGA is the final vessel in a series of 10, 5,500 TEU low-emission containerships constructed at CSSC Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding. Our CEO Alex Montebello, who presented a commemorative plaque to the vessel’s Captain to mark this important first call, said: “This visit by the CMA CGM TIGA reflects our readiness to handle the future of shipping — a future built on speed, sustainability, and operational excellence.” Designed with sustainability at its core, it’s equipped with: Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) to drastically cut NOx emissions; Alternate Maritime Power (AMP) for cleaner operations while at berth; A main engine aligned with the IMO’s 2050 decarbonisation goals; An EEDI 53.6% below the IMO baseline — exceeding Phase III standards. With its next stop in Piraeus, Greece, the CMA CGM TIGA sets a shining example of environmentally responsible shipping. Our CEO was accompanied on board the vessel by Felipe Barbosa, Terminal Execution Manager.
